Obama Administration and its Economic Policies

The United States over the past few years has been through peaks and troughs of well-being and happiness. The recession starting in December of 2007 is continuing still today, and the War on Terrorism is raging on - almost reaching the decade mark. People across the country are in dire poverty and millions of Americans are unemployed and living solely off of unemployment benefits. Our country is up to its ears in debt and the government only spends more and more every day on pointless things.
One might ask who is responsible for all of the events that have unfolded over the past 2 years, and as much as I would like to through a single person under the bus, it’s more than just one American that’s responsible. President Barack Obama was sworn into office January 20, 2009. Upon his arrival into the Oval Office, he brought with him his whole administration. His administration is made up of thousands of individuals in a variety of departments, his Presidential Cabinet and even the Executive Office of the President. All of these people are contributors to the growing economic problem today. Economically, Obama and his Administration are doing a poor job of regulating money and pulling our country out of the recession. Although Obama’s intentions may be good, I believe that his economic policies are not bringing us out of the recession, but leading the country deeper and deeper into the problem.

  1. I definitely agree that our nation is in an unbelievable amount of debt. As of today (October 6, 2010) our country is $13,622,511,055,149.19 in debt! That is INCREDIBLY high. And with some of the things that I hear our country spending money on, I definitely have times where I disagree with the decisions that are being made. However, I don't think Obama and his administration are fully to blame for the economic struggles currently going on. Many economic struggles (or any problems for that matter) have been put upon Presidents that don't deserve the credit or blame. Much blame should be put on Presidents before Obama, for he did not enter as President in the best economic situation. Much improvement still needs to occur, but I think no matter who became President they would have had some struggles.

  2. I do agree that any President would have had trouble coming into the White House and fixing all the problems - especially the economic ones. I am definitely not arguing the difficulty and complexity of the problem at hand. It certainly can't be easy and yes, much blame should probably be put on previous presidents. That being said, however, I do believe that the way Obama and his Administration are handling the country's economic problems (through their decision making and bill passing) are doing more harm than good. The debt was a result from the economy going under and the war, and Obama promised to bring about change. Well I haven't really seen any yet, aside from things getting worse. It is a good bet that anyone would have struggled to bring this country back up to its former glory, I'm just not sure Obama can handle the daunting task we need to take care of (based upon his history thus far in office).
